30 juli: Land der Ideen

IIn the Euregio Rijn-Waal farmers, companies and research institutes have joint forces to develop a hemp texile chain in the region. The aim is to produce hemp textiles in a sustainable way and to enhance regional economy.
In this project the hemp textile production chain is concentrated in the Euregio Rhein-Waal: Dutch and German farmers grow the hemp and regional textile companies transform the fibre into yarns and fabrics. The project is supported scientifically by Plant Research International - Wageningen UR, Haus Riswick - Landwirtschaftskammer Nordrhein-Wesfalen, Kleve and Deutsches Textilforschungszentrum Nord-West e.V., Krefeld.

In a Germany-wide competition, 365 landmarks were selected from more than 1,200 applications to present themselves and their ideas and innovations to the public on one day in 2007. These “landmarks” are private and public institutions, cultural and church organisations, social projects, companies, and scientific research centres. The Regional hemp textile chain project has been selected as one of the 365 landmarks for 2007. On 30 July the results of the project have been presented in Kleve (Germany). The following companies and institutes contributed to the fashion show held in the afternoon:
